Anti - crevice Spikes Nightmare
The creation of this many names sculpture took over a year: from March 2022 to May 2023.
The inspiration for the piece was a sentance:
I did not wake up in the middle of the day, but in the black fur of the night.
It is made of Styrofoam and approximately 16,000 bamboo sticks.
The whole thing was painted black.
My interpretation is an attempt to express memories of fear, both from childhood and the one I still struggle with today. The thorny nightmare appears to be crawling out of the wall, dynamically attacking the space around it. The unpleasant, uncomfortable form and bristling nature make you feel uneasy.
In addition, the work touches the essence of the value of objects. Despite the use of very cheap materials, the work I put in, the time devoted and the persistence of sticking in one stick after another takes on great value -
perhaps, it became priceless.
The work was presented at the Goethe Institute library in Warsaw, at the exhibition Comfort That Does Not Take Away.
The exhibition was part of the research and artistic series of the Happiness Research Laboratory ,
as part of the project Life after the Comfortocene, initiated by the Bęc Zmiana Foundation.
